The band SLY SUGAR created in 2018, is the meeting of 3 prolific and daring Artists: Sylvain, Julien and Chris.
The band, now made up of 5 experienced musicians, combines their talents to compose original music with multiple influences and no borders .
It’s on stage that everything explodes!
Massive reggae/dub, spiced up with electro-rock and maloya, awakens and stirs up the crowds.
The singer, with his intense voice, is a master of ceremonies, inhabited and insatiable. He has a gift for drawing audiences into his frenetic trance!

CHRIS HAGA

Chant Lead | Percussions Chris Haga travelled the world before making his musical debut in Brazil. It was in Sao Paulo that he began his career as a professional, recording two albums.Ten years later, with his small family, it was the call of his roots that led him to return to his native Reunion Island. As soon as he arrived in 2017, he set up his own band and produced his own compositions on the Reunion scene, while at the same time embarking on an ambitious creative project with SLY SUGAR. His leitmotiv is to bring to the public an original sound, a sunny and mixed music. His committed messages protect and embrace his culture.

SYLVAIN BALME

Keyboards | Vocals Sylvain BALME is a multi-talented artist: musician, actor, author, illustrator, he has also been working in the events business for over 25 years, with an infinite vision... Passionate and creative, he is always adding more strings to his bow to offer carefully-crafted, atypical shows. Since 2017, he has produced 4 audio Albums and 3 edited books.He has also filled the roles of Manager, Production Manager and organized tours in France, Switzerland and the Indian Ocean zone: Reunion, Mayotte, Mauritius. Drawing on his experience as an accomplished artist, he is fully committed to developing the group, and surrounds himself with a number of professionals: stage coaches, production and distribution managers, press attachés...

ALEXANDRE LABBÉ

Guitar At the age of 23, Alexandre decided to make a living from music. So he enrolled at the École de Musique Actuelle (EMA) in La Réunion for a 3-year professional training course in guitar. It was at this school that he really discovered music. He met local artists such as Danyel Waro, Ziskakan and Maya Kamaty, as well as international ones like Mohini Dey, Cory Henry and many others. He soon joined a number of different groups, including Pael Gigan and his sidekick Jean Luc Damartin, Mové Zerb, Band Taly, Sskyron, Kaf Marron, Didyé Kergrin, Dj Sebb, Sakouyaz, Jawex, Emma Nona, Mamiso, SLY SUGAR and Kévin Rush.
Today, Alexandre is well on the way to becoming a professional musician, forging a strong image among Réunionese artists.

MARTIAL COMBEAU

Bass A self-taught musician with a passion for music from an early age, Martial COMBEAU found his instrument of choice in 2006 and joined the rock band “The Monkey Effect”, with whom he won the Tremplin “Le son du Bahut” in 2010.It was in 2017 that he took off, joining 2 professional bands: Queen Flavie (rap) and Mové Zerb (MaloyaElectrique), with whom he performs regularly. At the same time, he explored different musical genres, playing alongside several international artists: Kaf Marron, FourTimes, Mamiso, Groove Malgache, Klowdy, all opportunities that confirmed his talent and strengthened his expertise. His encounter and collaboration with the group SLY SUGAR marked an important turning point in his professional career, which he hopes will grow exponentially and take him beyond borders.

JULIEN COUPELELA

Drums
Influenced by the Marleys and Creole and French variety music, Julien began playing guitar at the age of 8 and drums at 9. A self-taught musician, he played in various groups and joined the music workshop at the EMD in Saint-Joseph at the age of 13. As a teenager, he made his first big stage appearance in 2015 at the Teat Plein Air. In high school, he worked with the association Les Pierres de Poivre, touring Europe. After a year studying musicology in Strasbourg, Julien went on to perfect his skills at the conservatory. Back in La Réunion, he continued his training at the Saint-Denis conservatory and played in several bands, including Kintet, SLY SUGAR, Melozikos and others.…
